I have a Windows 2003 Server that has a number of Windows XP and Vista
computers and three groups of users who can log in successfully and access
their home folders and shared group folders.
I also have a "fleet" of iBooks running OS X 10.4.7 and MacBooks running OS
X newest version. The Apple computer users need to save and retrieve files
from their home folders on the Windows 2003 Server.
The system I used when we had a Novell Netware server was to select
"Network" then the icon for my server, and then enter the user name and
password. The server share then appeared as a file on the desktop.
Alternatively, I could press "Command K", enter the ip address for the server
and then the username and password and the share would appear.
When I try the first option above on the Windows server, I get the same
request from the MAC for a username and password, but when I select "connect"
I and enter a username and password, I get a message that says "The alias
"Eagle4W1" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.
Alternatively, if I try the "command K" route, I get the message "Could not
connect to the server because the name or password is not correct.
I have a NTFS partition on the server, I have installed Services for
Macintosh, the folders I am trying to access are all marked to share. I have
Group Policies applied to all users on the server. I am using simple names
and passwords of 7 or fewer characters.
Oh, yes. I have also tried the method for connecting to Active Directory
(which is what I would really like to do) but when I try to set up Directory
Access on the MAC, the input box for the Active Directory Forest is set to
Automatic and will not allow a change. I enter the Domain and try to Bind
but get a message that the Forest and Domain do not match.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place. |
