I have an all w2k3 R2 env. I am in the process of building out a DR. The DR
will be remotely located but part of the production domain. There are two DCs
in the prod domain. One is solely a DC/DNS server, the other (server2) is a
DC/DNS server and hosts many components of a proprietary financial app suite.
It wasn't my choice to combine these roles. We use Veritas Netbackup 6.5.

A new DC (not a restore) is going to be setup for the DR site. A cloned
version of server2 (renamed, different ip addr/site, re-sid) will be setup in
the DR site. The financial app part is what is needed.

My question is:
I would like the cloned/restored version of server2 to not be a DC
If I restore server2 from backup but don't restore the system state will I
have a working server with the only difference from the source (besides the
new name,ip addr, etc) being that its not a DC?

If the above is not possible, is it possible to restore a DC from backup and
rename it, re-ip it and re-sid it and have it be a working DC? I would only
do this so that I could DCPromo demote the box.

Thanks
