When demoting a DC that is a GC and AD integrated DNS server using DCPromo
what's the best course of action? Should one or both of the GC and DNS server
functionalities be removed from the server prior to the demotion? Also, will
DCPromo remove DC related DNS records for the server being demoted (srv
records, etc) or do they have to be removed manually?

Thanks

Hi Pdx,
DCpromoing out a DC thats a GC will cleanly deregister SRV records for that
DC from DNS.
If the DC is also a DNS server and you want to retain the DNS functionality,
you need to convert the Zones to Standard Primary zones from AD integrated
zones before you remove AD.

Regards,

Austin

I have an additional DNS server in the environment so DNS will be ok.
Regarding the server to be demoted though, is it correct that the best course
would be to leave DNS intact until after the dcpromo demote then uninstall
DNS service afterwards?
