Just curious how many of you self studied or went to school. Not juts for A+
but for any cert. |

For the A+ I read Myers' A+ Certification All in One for a couple of
weeks. I started taking a class for the Network+ (work was paying) but it
was pretty slow going and halfway through I just wrote the exam and got
it over with.
The CompTIA+ tests aren't very hard and IMHO do not warrant a class. The
LPIC-1 (Linux Professional Institute) was much more difficult. I didn't
take a class for that one because none were available. However I did get
the LPI study guide from O'Reilly and read it pretty diligently for
several months before writing the exam.
I'm currently taking the second of four Cisco Netacademy CCNA classes at
the local community college. Since September more than half of the class
dropped out. We have covered a lot of ground already and I would hesitate
to attempt the CCNA exam without at least some sort of class under my
belt. |

It depends on your sudy habits and enviornment.
I found it rewarding to take a community college class. I was away from home
and I had to keep my study sched in.
I am sched to take the CompTia A+ in cpl weeks so I am reviewing and working
on the preptests I find. Next is Network+ and soon Security+
after that I plan on gettiing the RHCE Linux certification.
I amyneed to find a school for that one.
If you are a good self-study... 'go balls to wall' and make every minute
count.
