Hi all,

I am trying to work out how VSS works in detail.. I did post a similar post
in the Exchange forum but have not had a response so am hoping that someone
here may know...

As far as I understand it.. software wise a copy on write solution is
used... So when a backup is scheduled, VSS creates a map of the disk and
pauses all i/o to the disk, once the map is created it allows i/o and allows
any changes to be made to the disk, whilst copying the original contents of
the disk to the diff area.

My question is what does ntbackup do now! Does it attempt to create the
backup from the diff area and then read any unchanged parts from the original
disk? Also how does this work with Exchange?? Really quite mystified at
this...
