Q: ...I have my CCNP. I was just wondering how hard it would be for me out of college to find a job with no work experience?

A: Just list your education and certs at the top of your resume...since they will be more impressive than your (lack of) work experience.. although
definitely shoot for the university job...with a ccnp , I'd say you have a
better chance than your peers. (John Smith)

A: I think it can be difficult and it may place limits on the kind of job
you can get. I was in about the same situation as you. I left
university having basically never had a proper job. I actually found it
easy to get a job, the first one I went for was a job on the
Compuserve/AOL helpdesk, the money was rubbish but it was good
experience and in those kind of jobs you tend to work with some
excellent people and some that are there just for the ride. So you can
find it easy to shine and enjoy yourself at the same time. Since then
I've only been turned down once and I'm now working for a blue chip
company and providing Tier 3 support for their email systems throughout
the UK.
So you can certainly do it but be prepared to aim a bit lower to start
with, make sure your resume/CV makes them want to get you in for an
interview and do any explaining of your reasons there if you need to. If
you do aim low make sure the employer has plenty of better opportunities
for you, e.g make sure that if you go for helpdesk jobs, make sure thei
Tier 2/3 work is inhouse and local. One extra benefit of an employer
that doesn't pay too well is that staff turnover can be quite high, this
helps you a lot because if you can prove yourself and make it known that
you want to move on then there will be plenty of chances for you to move
up as people leave. Once you've got to the kind of level you want to
be, you can then apply to the other companies who pay better and tell
them that you have experience of working in a very similar role.
