Q: I have just completed exam 70-218 and I am now MCSA certified. I would now like to aim for my MCSE. Since the 2003 exams have been released, which 2003 exams will I need to take to become MCSE certified? OR would I have to take the 2000 exams (such as 70-216, 217 etc.)?

A: Yep, continue on the Win2K MCSE. Win2K is not scheduled for retirement until sometime is 2007 so it wont be a waste. After you get MCSE in Win2K it is just one exam to upgrade to MCSA Win2K3 or two to upgrade to MCSE Win2K3.

You will need to continue the 2000 path for your MCSE. The exams are not interchangeable. I am at the same point as you (MCSA). I would suggest a test order of 217,219,216 and then your last elective. This seems to present a natural progression of material. 217,218, and 219 cover AD and 216 changes direction covering network material.

Since no one has experience with 2003, it makes no sense to get 2k3 certified until 2004. There is no guarantee that 2k3 will be accepted by the business world. Given the state of the economy they may save their money for Longhorn. If 2000 is working for them now they really have no incentive to buy 2k3 and that would leave them more money to pay for experienced technicians. This would leave a 2000 MCSE in a very profitable situation.
